We are one of nearly 400 medical offices across the United States now screening potential participants for the JUPITER research trial, a HEART DISEASE PREVENTION TRIAL aimed at enrolling 15,000 healthy individuals who do not have high cholesterol, diabetes, or a previous history of significant heart disease such as heart attach or stroke.
The JUPITER trial is seeking to identify and treat people who possess what research has shown to be a significant new risk factor for heart disease; a protein found in the bloodstream, which marks chronic low-level inflammation. This protein high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), is easily identified by a simple blood rest.
The JUPITER trial aims to answer a critical question: Can drugs known as statins, which are currently used to lower cholesterol, prevent future heart disease among healthy people with normal to low cholesterol but with high levels of hsC-reactive protein?
The JUPITER trial will provide qualified participants with laboratory tests and study related medical evaluations at no cost. Enrolled participants will be randomly assigned to receive the investigational statin, rosuvastatin, or placebo for a 3 to 4 year period.
As a participant in the JUPITER trial you will help to find the best therapy for the more than 35 million Americans who may be at increased risk of heart disease because of undetected elevated levels of hsCRP. Ultimately, your participation may help you avoid a future heart attack or stroke.
In order to be eligible for the JUPITER trial, men must be 55 or above, women must be 65 or above, and you must have no history of diabetes, heart attack or stroke. Also, you may not be taking hormone replacement therapy or any medications to lower cholesterol.
If you or someone you know is interested in being screened for possible participation in the JUPITER trial, please call us at (703) 250-5171. All study visits are to be conducted at our office at 5631 Burke Centre Parkway, Suite A, Burke, VA 22015.
